My brothers and I all enjoyed a lovely day out recently at Gorleston near Great Yarmouth. We had heard that a doggie diner had just opened and so we just had to investigate.
The diner is in an old boat house and has loads of character. There were comfy armchairs inside and plenty of seating room. Around the diner were lots of knick-knacks and ornaments as well as pictures which the owner, Angie, had painted – all for sale!
We were given a warm greeting by Angie and we were delighted to receive some free welcome sausages on our arrival, as do all doggy guests.
When we were there we met a few of our canine friends including a terrier called Emma whose human, Melanie, fronts the local Harbour Radio station in Great Yarmouth. Being polite, we asked Emma and some of her pals to join us for lunch. Whilst waiting Gizmo challenged one our guest to a game of chess, although he got somewhat distracted by the wafting smell of dinner!
There is an tempting menu for dogs and we particularly like the doggy pup cakes, sausages and gravy dinners and the assortment of biscuits on offer, all home made.
Angie set up the doggy diner when she discovered that there were very few places that dogs were made welcome in the area. She has certainly filled a much needed gap in the market as the cafe is packed out with regulars who come to socialise. And it’s not just us dogs who love it…many humans who are unable to have a dog for various reasons like to pop in to have a cuddle and a chat.
After a hearty lunch we had a lovely walk on the local beach and then went back to the diner to bid farewell and grab another sausage!
If any of you out there happen to be in the area, please visit the diner which is located next to the Pier Hotel and is open 7 days a week. It is really well worth a visit!
