What a totally pawesome day we all had at the annual Hunstanton Fun Dog Show held at Glebe House School! The morning rain did not dampen anyone’s spirits and once again canines of all breeds and sizes arrived in their droves to take part in all the activities, some having convinced pawrents to bring them from as far afield as Birmingham, the Forest of Dean, London, Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
The day started off with a a fastest recall competition which proved to be very exciting – two contestants finished with exactly the same time and there had to be a run-off to decide the winner – Pawesome!!

There was also an opportunity to have a go at agility which is great fun as it stimulates us mentally as well as physically. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, we had some dachshund racing, much to the amusement of all those humans watching! After a final week of intensive online training with Race Director & Trainer, Emma Teckel, seventeen superbly fit dachshunds from all over the country took part. Five heats were run, after which the grand final saw Jester, a miniature wire-haired dachshund from London, take the title of Champion Dachshund Racer 2017!
Before the main show began Ruth with Chase & her colleagues from ‘Paws Obedience’ demonstrated their range of dancing skills in front of a large, appreciative crowd. Kevin, our compere, was on great form as ever, entertaining the spectators with his inimitable brand of humour.
There were lots and lots of doggies at the show but in particular a large number of my Cavalier pals turned up – the show is becoming a ‘must attend event’ on the Cavalier calendar. As this was my last year organising the show (I’m in semi-retirement) my fellow cavaliers joined me in the ring for a parade and special additional class. As mum pushed me in my stroller to cheers and waves I must confess I felt a tear in my eye! Good luck to my successor…Brother Gizmo!
There were 12 fun classes in total and it was wonderful to see so many of my canine mates in each category. I was particularly impressed by all the entrants of the fancy dress event; so much effort was made by all and I totally loved the winners, whose human owner, along with many others, also dressed up for the occasion! I wish I had some of those outfits – perhaps I’ll have to sell some of my doggy chunks in order to buy some?
The winner of the Best In Show was a beautiful Cavalier called Oakley, whose mum, Beth Crisp is very proud of! (I wasn’t jealous – really, I wasn’t !!!). The Reserve Best In Show went to Bear, a Rottweiler, who attended with mum, Tara Warren.
Thank you all so much for coming along to the show and all the humans who brought you. It was also lovely to see so many stalls selling wonderful doggy treats and other canine themed goodies. Thanks once again to Kevin and our judges, but in particular to Mrs Victoria Wright who was our main judge and unbelievably travelled over 200 miles to be with us! Thanks also to Lily’s mum & friends/family for organising the agility and fastest recall competition and to Emma for the Dachshund Racing and finally, but not least, to the wonderful guys at Coastal Vets for sponsoring the rosettes. My woofs and barks of appreciation also go to the other human helpers who did so much sterling work on the day. My brother Gizmo looks forward to welcoming you all back next year!
