Lifeboat Inn gets Pawstar Approval!

The pawrents, brothers and I recently visited the Lifeboat Inn at Thornham for a spot of lunch.  We were greeted by a rather nice man called James who took our orders and proceeded to tell us about this exceedingly doggy friendly place.  Not only are dogs welcome throughout the Inn (with the exception of the main restaurant) but they have special dog friendly rooms which cater for up to 4 dogs – yes 4!  I tell you, I practically fell out of my stroller with excitement when I heard this!  Furthermore, the rooms come with dog blankets, water/food bowls, treats and a welcome letter!

Dogs are even allowed to join their pawrents for breakfast! Locally produced sausages are on the menu for dogs and there is a special area designated for humans and their furry friends.   I have to admit I was a bit gobsmacked when I learnt this and I could not believe my long fluffy ears when I heard the receptionist warmly greet some human guests and ask, ‘Will your dog be joining us for breakfast?’  Pure class, and by now I was demanding that mum sold the house and we moved into The Lifeboat Inn on a permanent basis.

The Lifeboat Inn is an old smugglers’ ale house dating back to the 16th century. It’s steeped in history and has loads of original features – our favourite was the open fire in the lounge area.

After the pawrents had an exceedingly nice lunch and we had enjoyed some complimentary doggy treats we headed off for a walk.

A short stroll down a country lane takes you to Thornham Harbour from where you can walk along an embankment to Thornham beach.  We would recommend that doggies stay on the lead until they get to the beach as the area around the harbour is very muddy and we wouldn’t want anyone to get stuck!  Once on the beach you can run for miles and miles – it is totally uncommercialised and never gets all that busy, even in the height of summer.

You can walk as far as you like along the beach or if you prefer take the coastal path to Holme (approx 45 mins), or even Hunstanton (approx 1.5 hours).  At Hunstanton you can catch the dog friendly Coasthopper bus back to Thornham (please check timetables as times vary).

I’m very proud to have been born in the very dog friendly county of Norfolk.  There are lots of hotels that welcome dogs but this is the first that I know of that will take 4 dogs.  I have to say a big woofy well done to the Lifeboat Inn!

We were all extremely impressed by The Lifeboat Inn’s attitude to dogs and the welcome we received. The little extras that are on offer make you feel totally welcome and not just tolerated – we therefore award the Lifeboat Inn with our maximum 3 paw star rating. Congratulations!
